Access to adequate healthcare services remains a major challenge for communities in the underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas. Recognizing this need, Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) once again collaborates with the Doctor Peduli Foundation (doctorSHARE) to provide floating healthcare services through the Nusa Waluya II Hospital Ship. This time, the hospital ship’s medical services are present in North Waigeo, Southwest Papua. The ship will operate for 60 days, from June 10, until August, aiming to serve up to 10,000 residents from seven districts in the area free of charge. This collaboration is part of PIS’s commitment to corporate social responsibility in the social sector, under the BerSEAnergi for the Sea program. “We see a shared mission between PIS and doctorSHARE, which is to bring benefits to the community through the sea by utilizing ship facilities. Therefore, this cooperation is very relevant,” said Muhammad Baron, Corporate Secretary of PIS. The ship used, the Nusa Waluya II Hospital Ship, is equipped with various medical facilities such as a major operating room, emergency room (ER), delivery room, laboratory, and inpatient ward. During approximately 20 days of service in Waigeo, the ship has helped more than 1,300 patients, including two emergency cesarean section operations that saved both mother and baby. Baron added that this cooperation is a continuation of a similar collaboration carried out in 2023 in the Seget area, Sorong, Papua. “This aligns with PIS’s CSR social pillar, which is to improve community welfare through access to healthcare, alongside two other pillars: environment and education.” Chairman of the Doctor Peduli Foundation (doctorSHARE), Tutuk Utomo, appreciated the second collaboration with PIS, which remains committed to channeling its social responsibility to provide healthcare access to remote communities, making services more accessible. He explained that the Nusa Waluya II has an area of about 900 m² and is equipped with 21 inpatient beds, 2 major surgery rooms, a delivery room (VK), emergency room, 9 specialist and general clinics, as well as laboratory, radiology, and blood bank facilities. A total of 35 medical personnel also serve full-time on the ship, including general practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, and specialists such as obstetricians/gynecologists, pediatricians, surgeons, and internists.
