The Agriculture Department of West Lombok Regency, in West Nusa Tenggara, conducted inspections of livestock, including both cows and goats, ahead of the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha, which falls on June 17. Among the livestock inspected was a sacrificial cow (qurban) belonging to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“This cow weighs 1 ton 57 kg and is 3.5 years old. It passed the selection to become the top-quality cow in West Nusa Tenggara,” said Atang Setianoro, the cattle owner, on Wednesday. Atang explained that his Brahman cow had been registered since last Ramadan (March to April). The cow was inspected by the Director General of Animal Husbandry of Indonesia and the West Nusa Tenggara Animal Husbandry Service two weeks ago, and it passed the selection process. “The eligibility and vaccinations have been checked by the district authorities,” he explained. The cow is estimated to be worth over Rp 100 million ($6,000). Representatives from the Presidential Secretariat Office are expected to come to check its health and eligibility, and to plan the slaughtering and delivery mechanisms. “The meat will be donated to the Ubung Mosque in Central Lombok,” he said. Atang mentioned that the cow was obtained from Gangga, North Lombok, with an initial weight of 800 kilograms eight months ago.
