President Prabowo Subianto is set to visit Jayapura, Papua, to inaugurate a hospital built by the Ministry of Health with a budget of nearly Rp1 trillion, or about $60 million, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said on Tuesday that the president is scheduled to travel to Jayapura in the near future, although no specific date has been announced. “In Jayapura, the President will inaugurate a hospital worth almost Rp1 trillion to reinforce healthcare facilities in Papua,” Tito said at the presidential palace. Governors from Papua’s six provinces have formally requested the construction of hospitals in their respective regions. According to Tito, the government is currently finalizing financing schemes to support hospital construction across these provinces. On the same day, President Prabowo announced the formation of an Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua’s Special Autonomy Development. He said the body was established to assist local leaders in speeding up development programs across the region. The president stressed that priority programs for Papua align with national initiatives implemented elsewhere in Indonesia. These include the free nutritious meals program for schoolchildren and pregnant women, which has begun reaching Papua, although some remote areas remain underserved.
