Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said her country wants to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), but is not yet ready to do so. The former World Bank managing director spoke Wednesday to CNBC’s Joumanna Bercetche at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Spring Meetings in Washington. Indrawati said Indonesian President Joko Widodo has always wanted to join the TPP but does not see it as an immediate priority for the economy. After the United States abandoned plans to join the TPP trade agreement, 11 other countries decided to revive it and signed a revised version in March, but just last week, President Donald Trump has directed senior aides to explore rejoining the 11-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership if a “better deal” can be reached.
