New ministries created by the incoming administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto may need three years before they can work effectively after being established, senior advisor at the Indonesian Laboratory 2045 (Lab45) research institute Andi Widjajanto said on Tuesday. After a discussion reviewing outgoing president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s 10-year administration at the National Library in Central Jakarta, Andi said the formation of new ministries would require many processes, such as drafting regulations, placing civil servants and allocating state budgets. The former cabinet secretary cited his experience in creating ministries and government agencies during Jokowi’s first tenure, including the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), the Coordinating Maritime Affairs Ministry and the Office of the Presidential Staff (KSP). Formed in 2015 to promote Indonesia’s creative culture and innovation potential, Andi said Bekraf needed three years to operate fully. In September, lawmakers at the House of Representatives passed the revision of the Ministry Law, which removed a legal limit on the number of ministries, allowing Prabowo to determine the number of ministries in accordance with the needs of his administration.
