President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has decided he will start working from the new capital, Nusantara, starting Tuesday until his ends his term on Oct. 20, when he will pass over the presidential power to Prabowo. As his term comes to an end, the capital relocation program is set to become one of Jokowi’s legacies. Jokowi intends to spend his remaining days as president in Nusantara. “The Garuda Palace, which will be the president’s workplace, is ready. So it is normal for the president to want to know how it feels working at the Garuda Palace before he hands over the presidency to the next president. This project is indeed his legacy,” presidential spokesman Hasan Nasbi said on Monday. Even so, Jokowi will still make business trips to other parts of the archipelagic Indonesia as usual. “The president will visit other regions and he will depart from Nusantara. It is also possible that he [Jokowi] will appoint Vice President [Ma’ruf Amin] on those trips,” Hasan said. The spokesman also briefly commented on whether Jokowi planned on conducting another cabinet reshuffle, saying that it is his prerogative as a president to appoint new ministers. Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung have submitted their resignation letters to focus on the upcoming gubernatorial election. “It is the president’s prerogative. He may appoint an acting minister or a definitive minister to fill those vacant posts ahead of Oct. 20,” Hasan said.
