Indonesia is expected to hold the Group of 20 (G20) summit in October in a slightly changed format, with more emphasis on bringing in prominent figures to speak at the high-profile event. Communications and Information Ministry director general of information and public communication Usman Kansong told The Jakarta Post that President Joko Widodo planned to invite innovators, philanthropists and business leaders to take part in the summit, which is set to be held in Bali, this year. He said that the President planned to invite some prominent figures such as former CEO of Microsoft Bill Gates and CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg, among others, to speak at the event. “Political leaders come and go with each election cycle, but these people have been dedicating a significant part of their lives to advocating for certain issues that they believe are important,” said Usman on Wednesday. Usman added that by placing emphasis on more illustrious speakers from different backgrounds, it was hoped that the planned speakers could share their insights that would help the leaders of the G20 countries tackle pressing global issues.
