The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), in collaboration with Indonesian mass media, today launched a whistleblower platform, called Indonesialeaks, for the public to report corruption acts.
“We refer to the legality basis related to corruptions defined in the Anticorruption Law,” ICW coordinator Adnan Topan Husodo said during the launch. Accordingly, the ICW will guarantee the anonymity of people who report any corruption acts. “Regarding personal safety, we refer to the code of ethics. We cannot reveal information to anyone,” he said.
Adnan hopes that the public will participate in the effort to eradicate corruption. He pointed out that the state does not appreciated people who reveal corruption practices.
“We’re not talking about money, but appreciation. For instance, a civil servant who reveals a corruption practice should be rewarded with a promotion. As such, we can be more aware of corrupt practices,” Adnan explained.
Indonesialeaks is an independent platform founded by 10 mass media outlets and five non-governmental organizations (NGO). The platform allows the public to submit data or documents related to public interest, anonymously. The media outlets will then verify the data or documents submitted.
Institutions participating in the Indonesialeaks program are Tempo, CNN Indonesia, KBR, Bisnis Indonesia, Independen.id, Jaring, Suara.com, the Jakarta Post, Sindo Weekly, Liputan 6, ICW, LBH Pers, Change.org, Greenpeace, Auriga, PPMM, and Free Press Unlimited.
