The Indonesian government encourages China to invest in the archipelago’s new and renewable energy sector. Energy and Mineral Resources, Ignasius Jonan Minister said that China’s investment in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector has not been so great.
“Frankly, in the past year, we have not seen any major activity in the renewable and new energy [from China]. Most are of Europe, US and Japan,” he said as he opened the 5th Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF V) in Jakarta, yesterday.
Jonan said Indonesia will welcome China if they are keen to conduct studies or establish partnerships in the renewable energy sector.
Jonan spoke of the government’s target to have 20% clean energy portion for power plants and vehicles by 2025.
“The target is accompanied by efforts to make renewable energy prices more efficient,” the Energy Ministry’s spokesman Dadan Kusdiana said some time ago.
Dadan said that since May this year 59 power-purchase agreements with a total capacity of 567 MW had been signed by PLN with clean energy developers. PLN will also sign nine more agreements with a total capacity of 640 MW.
PLN’s director of strategic procurement Nicke Widyawati said the current installed clean energy capacity in Indonesia is 6,000 MW. In order to meet the target, additional plants that will operate in 2025 must reach a capacity of 30,000 MW.
