Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, announced yesterday that Tik Tok headquarters in China had blocked an account that had been spreading false rumors about Cambodia. The disinformation, which emerged in a video clip circulated on social media, alleged that former Defence Minister Tea Banh, along with Deputy Prime Minister and current Minister of National Defence General Tea Seiha, and senior leaders of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), had orchestrated a coup d’état to topple Prime Minister Hun Manet and arrest Senate President Hun Sen. Lieutenant General Mali Socheata, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, strongly refuted the video clip last week, condemning it as a distortion of the truth. She stated that the accusations against the leaders of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces were baseless, emphasizing their loyalty to the legitimate government and their dedication to national defense, religion, the King, and the Constitution. “The act of distorting the truth and inciting unrest is egregious and unacceptable. The Ministry of Defense will take all necessary measures to hold those responsible fully accountable before the law,” she said. Lt Gen Socheata assured that the officers, deputies, and soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain committed to supporting the legitimate government under Prime Minister Hun Manet and are dedicated to eliminating extremist elements that threaten national unity, peace, stability, social order, and the well-being of the people.
