The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia has lodged a strong protest with Thailand’s Ministry of Culture over activities carried out by Thai authorities at the Ta Moan Temple complex and Ta Krabei Temple. The ministry said in a statement issued yesterday that both temple sites are located in Oddar Meanchey province within Cambodia’s sovereign territory, as clearly defined by the Franco-Siamese

Treaties of 1904 and 1907 and their officially recognized maps, which remain valid under international law. The protest followed reports that Thai authorities are building around the two temples. The ministry expressed grave concern over damage to Ta Krabei Temple, an 11th-century structure in Oddar Meanchey province that reportedly suffered severe, near-total destruction following repeated shelling and artillery attacks by the Thai military last December. The ministry called upon the Thai side to immediately cease all activity at the temple sites, to respect Cambodia’s sovereignty, and to resolve all related issues peacefully and in keeping with international law. The ministry said it remains committed to the protection of Cambodia’s cultural heritage and to cooperation based on mutual respect, legality, and the principles upheld by international organizations.
