Prime Minister Hun Manet announced plans to expand the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to include a family package in addition to the current individual coverage. The premier spoke on Tuesday during a groundbreaking event at the University of Health Sciences Hospital in Phnom Penh.
Premier Hun Manet underscored, “Currently, NSSF members have individual coverage, but the responsible bodies are not fully established. We introduced a voluntary social security system with a contribution of 15,600 riels per month, which provides the same benefits. Recently, I met with Aun Porn Moniroth and Heng Sour to discuss the possibility of expanding the system to include family packages.” At the same time, the premier underlined that significant progress has been made in the Health Equity Fund package under the Royal Government’s policies. The NSSF now covers over 300,000 people, marking a substantial increase in coverage. In line with the Royal Government’s commitment to ensuring access to healthcare, a health equity card has been introduced for unemployed or vulnerable individuals who are at risk. The government will cover the costs of their insurance. The NSSF system is divided into different categories, including civil servants (with the state covering expenses), individuals and companies (with employers covering expenses), and self-employed individuals in the informal sector (self-financed).
