Cambodia’s exiled opposition leader Sam Rainsy has committed treason by inciting soldiers to defy orders, Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Wednesday, and he will face new legal action over the comments. Last week, Cambodia cancelled the diplomatic passports of some opposition members weeks after a Supreme Court ruling dissolved their political party. With the recent arrest of Kem Sokha and the self-exile of Sam Rainsy – Cambodia’s main opposition leaders – as well as the shutdown of various media outlets including The Cambodia Daily, many have declared that democracy in Cambodia is dead.
