Health Minister Chheang Ra announced that Cambodia is on track to be malaria-free by September this year, thanks to targeted drug distribution efforts, and urged the public to actively join the nationwide campaign. Ra made the remarks during a ceremony marking National Malaria Day on Friday in Stung Treng province. The day aimed to accelerate progress toward malaria elimination by energizing action at all levels—from policy-making to grassroots efforts—boosting investment, promoting health education campaigns, and sharing innovative strategies to address remaining challenges efficiently.

“By September 2025, there will be no malaria transmission,” Ra said. “We plan to administer medicine in targeted areas, including military bases and at the village and commune levels. If we all participate, we can definitely eliminate malaria.” He added, “If we follow the plan, Cambodia will be recognized not only nationally but also internationally for achieving this goal.” Ra also issued recommendations to local authorities and called on communities to join in the effort by educating people on malaria prevention and treatment. He noted that individuals infected with malaria can be cured within seven days with proper medication. “Villages, communes, and families must become malaria-free zones and serve as role models in malaria prevention,” he said. “Forest-goers must receive preventive malaria medication from village volunteers free of charge, three days before entering the forest.” Read more at:
