While Cambodians use various foreign social media applications, such as Facebook, Telegram, Instagram, WhatsApp, and so on, a group of Cambodian IT professionals has launched the first Cambodian social media application. This afternoon, Mr Hun Sen, President of the Senate, posted on his social media networks that CoolApp is the first Cambodian social media application. “CoolApp, Cambodia’s first chat social media application, which has the same standards as Telegram and WhatsApp, is now available on the App Store and Play Store,” he said. Mr Hun Sen, a leader known for his support and openness to social media usage, said CoolApp was developed by many Cambodian IT professionals for more than three years since 2021 and has just been released. The Cambodian former prime minister added that CoolApp has many functions, including chat and video calls, following international standards. Data and call data are encrypted and secure using Internet Local (Dix), which makes calls sound clear while pictures and videos are sent rapidly. “CoolApp is the pride of our nation. It is the first-ever Cambodian program and used within the Cambodian security domain,” stressed Mr. Hun Sen. CoolApp is designed never to collect or store any sensitive information.
