A report in Indian newspaper The Sunday Guardian claims that the administration of US President Joe Biden – along with George Soros’ Open Society Foundation – was behind a plan to create a ‘color revolution’ in Cambodia. The report, entitled ‘Biden administration backed organizations plotting color revolution in Cambodia’, bases it’s claims on what it says are leaked documents and internal communications. It adds that efforts are ‘is still being attempted in Cambodia by the United States-based and -backed civil society and government groups.’ The report claims that the efforts to instigate revolution were led by ‘a cocktail of agencies situated in the US and other countries, in collaboration with political dissenters in Cambodia’. who used ‘the issue of Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) agreement to push the Cambodian government to the back foot and subsequently execute a long-standing operation to remove the incumbent government from power and install a pro-Washington face in Phnom Penh.’
The report also implicates former opposition leaders Sam Rainsy and Mu Sochua as co-conspirators in the scheme – with a leaked email apparently showing that Mu Sochua was the recipient of at least $55,000 from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) for ‘Major advocacy [that] will continue till the end of 2024’. The claims are as yet unverified and the report ends by saying that they ‘sent an email to Liberty International, Ms Sochua, Kurawal Foundation, Comfrel, Central and YRDP on their official email seeking their version and response to these claims and developments. No response was shared by them till the time this report went to press.’ Read more at: https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501589556/foreign-media-claims-that-biden-administration-backed-organisations-plotting-colour-revolution-in-cambodia/
