Special operations units from Indonesia’s air force, army and navy are set to play a bigger role in the war on terror, following the recent spate of attacks on churches and the police across the country. The joint operations, which will include personnel of the Army’s Special Forces (Kopassus), the Navy’s Denjaka specialized squad and the Air Force’s Bravo 90 special force, would be put on standby and be ready to be mobilized at any time when terror threats emerged. Writing for The Strategist, Evan Laksmana said that the government should not rush into abandoning the current criminal justice model of counterterrorism in return for a more repressive, or ‘war-fighting’, force.
