Thirty-nine local and foreign companies have expressed interest to build the New Mandalay Resort City project, also known as Yadanarpon Cyber City, in Pyin Oo Lwin township, the region’s Housing and Urban Development Department said.
The Ministry of Construction called for expression of interest (EOI) applications for the project in February, and 39 companies have submitted their applications, according to department Director U Thet Naing.
The deadline for applications of EOI is Saturday, U Thet Naing added. “We explained about EOI application forms sold in Nay Pyi Taw on March 12 to all companies so that they can ask us what they don’t understand (about the project),” he said.
But U Thet Naing said that the government will only know who would formally bid for the project once the tender opens
He said among the foreign companies who expressed interest in the project are from Japan, China and South Korean companies. “We are still organizing a tender selection team. It will comprise relevant regional ministers, officials from the Ministry of Construction and other private professionals,” U Thet Naing said.
The project, which aims to deve-lop a green and information technology-based resort city in upper Myanmar, will be implemented on 10,000 acres of land. The minister for Construction will chair the project supervisory committee, and every committee comprises national government ministers.
The New Mandalay Resort City project features three phases. The central government will take charge of phase one and phase three while the regional government will supervise phase two, according to U Thet Naing.
“We welcome EOIs for phase one and phase three,” he said. “We can create job opportunities in all sectors, especially for local residents,” he added.
Phase one covers 2200 acres, including industrial, housing, and education and health service zones.
Phase two, which will be built on 2919 acres, includes a residential area and development, administrative, agro-based industrial and SME zones, as well as parks and service zones.
Phase three covers 4744 acres and will include high-class living complexes, affordable housing, a golf course and an agriculture zone.
