In an interview with Reuters on Monday, the youngest son of former Indonesian President Suharto, Hutomo “Tommy” Mandala Putra, said he is leading a party into elections next year because two decades of reform have failed to move the country on from corruption, collusion and nepotism. The Tempo news service reports that Tommy Suharto has registered as a legislative candidate in Papua Province with the General Elections Commission under his newly formed Berkarya Party banner. Meanwhile, his older sister, Siti Hediati Herijadi, better known as Titiek Soeharto, the second daughter of former president Soeharto, declared on Monday her withdrawal from the Golkar Party to joining Berkarya, where she is said to hold a strategic position.
