Selangor’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on Monday announced that it opposed the opposition coalition’s appointment of Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidate. Mahathir, who served 22 years as the country’s leader before retiring in 2003, is determined to topple the party he once led — and in his quest to do so, has joined forces with his arch nemesis, former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom he once jailed for corruption and sodomy. Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah vice-president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said the decision to name Mahathir as a candidate was a “desperate move”.
