Malaysia’s growing ties to Saudi Arabia – and its puritan Salafi-Wahhabi Islamic doctrines –  are coming under new scrutiny as concerns grow over an erosion of traditional religious practices and culture in the multi-ethnic nation. Southeast Asia’s youths are getting radicalized as Saudi Arabia is pouring money for the spread Wahhabism, a fundamentalist Sunni school of Islam, in the region. Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak has announced that Saudi Arabia is investing $7bn in an oil refinery in the country, a project that will be set up by Malaysian oil company Petronas.
