Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Sunday criticized Australia’s move to recognize West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, saying countries had “no rights” to do so, Reuters reports. Australia has become one of the few countries to formally recognize West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, but says it will not move its embassy from Tel Aviv until a peace settlement is reached. Malaysia’s neighboring country Indonesia, the largest Muslim population, released a five-point response to Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s controversial move that include a call for Australia as well as all United Nations members to promptly recognize the State of Palestine.
