Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s government has opted out of a major US development aid program that requires recipients to support democracy and fight corruption, the two countries said on Tuesday. However, the Philippine government has “invited” the US government to support and assist them on Marawi’s reconstruction, according to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. The Philippine Navy confirmed on Sunday that the Naval Combat Construction Brigade or Seabees are assisting in the rehabilitation phase in war-torn of Marawi City in Lanao del Sur, which the Islamic State-linked Maute terrorists held under siege for five months.
